Environmental Water Officer

Purpose of the Role

The Environmental Water Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant water monitoring and reporting requirements, as stipulated by the conditions of approval, Environmental Protection License 21266 and applicable site management plans.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications in environmental management or a related field
  • Minimum unrestricted Class C driver’s licence with expectations to obtain Medium Rigid
  • White Card

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the construction industry in a similar role is desirable
  • Experience in ground and surface water monitoring
  • Experience in statutory and analytical report writing
  • Demonstrated experience in analytical data management
  • Demonstrated experience using a broad range of environmental and spatial software systems

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Undertake sampling of ground and surface water in accordance with relevant conditions and procedures, including proper quality control and assurance.
  • Ensure proper sample management techniques are implemented, including collection, preservation, handling and transportation. Transportation will include liaising with relevant departments throughout the process.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of monitoring equipment meets relevant standards.
  • Ordering and maintaining relevant consumables and equipment.
  • Maintain detailed records of all sampling activities, including recording key physiochemical data management and accurate chain of custody documentation.
  • Review and interpret analytical information in accordance with relevant management plans.
  • Incident investigation and response management (i.e. TARP implementation).
  • Provide evidence-based specialist advice to broad audiences.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing analytical trends and findings.
  • Ensure relevant reports are submitted in a timely manner and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate and report on potential pollution sources and recommend adequate management solutions.
  • Collaborate with project teams to implement water quality improvement measures.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of implemented measures and adjust water management strategies as required.
  • Assist in identifying training requirements.
  • Participate in relevant meetings as required.
