Purpose of the Role Responsible for inspecting and assessing the quality and strength of welding work. Ensuring welds are safe and fit for purpose complying with appropriate International or Australian standards, codes and client specifications. Verify that documentation, procedures and welder qualifications are in place and adhered to and inspection of welding equipment used. |
Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities - Verify welding specifications and compliances for site requirements, FGJV and subcontractors
- Ensure welding procedures are being followed correctly and that welders are using appropriate equipment and materials
- Identify the qualifications of welders and the validity of their certificates
- Ensure that the correct tools and equipment are being used
- Verify that welding equipment is calibrated and in suitable condition
- As required (critical welding applications), ensure that base metals, welding filler metals, joint preparations, fit ups, minimum preheat/maximum inter-pass temperatures, welding parameters and weather conditions are compliant to WPS, standards, codes and drawings
- Perform visual inspections of welded joints, ensuring they are in accordance with WPS/drawings
- Ensure compliance to the required dimensional tolerances
- Ensure that NDT will be completed as required by the applicable standards and codes
- Maintain records of inspections conducted
- Interpret welding symbols, drawings, specifications and codes
- Communicate with their direct supervisor on a regular basis regarding welding quality and progress
- Identify and report any deviations or non-conformances to procedures, codes or standards
- Ensure that all activities/tasks adhere to national and state health and safety regulations
- Other Quality Inspection tasks as designated by their direct supervisor
