Building opportunity on Country.
This Indigenous Business Month, we’re proud to highlight the work of RC Construction, a local Indigenous-owned company contributing to one of the Northern Territory’s most significant maritime infrastructure projects.
Clough BMD Group Joint Venture, the head contractor delivering the ship lift project as part of the Northern Marine Complex in Darwin, recently awarded the Caissons Package to RC Construction.
The technically complex package includes Form, Reinforce, Pour (FRP) works, constructing the capping slabs across the caissons, ship lift and wet berth topping slabs as well as the Apron slab. Overall, the team will install more than 5,500m³ of structural concrete and 1,600 tonnes of reinforcement.
The commencement of works was marked with a traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country, recognising Country and the responsibility that comes with building on it.
RC Construction Director, Thomas Hutcheson, said: “Being able to carry out this work on Country makes this project particularly meaningful.”
Partnerships like this demonstrate the value of creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous businesses to participate in major projects, build capability and contribute to the future of their communities.
