Meet Marina Ornelas, Organisation and Change Management Analyst! Marina plays a key role in strengthening our internal systems and fostering connections with emerging talent. Her story is a great example of how determination, teamwork, and a passion for people can build a rewarding career.
“Before joining Webuild, I had begun my career in my home country, Brazil, as a Marketing Analyst in the pharmaceutical industry. After moving to Australia, I pursued further education and gained Diplomas in Events Management and Project Management. Like many newcomers, I worked in a variety of casual roles that helped me adapt and build resilience before securing a four-month internship as an Events Intern, a professional turning point that opened doors to new opportunities.
“This experience led me to QV1 Management, where I supported all aspects of building administration, initiatives, and events. QV1 is where Webuild’s Perth office is located, and through my role, I had regular interactions with the company. I conducted building inductions for Webuild staff and collaborated with the team through various QV1 events, which allowed me to gain valuable insight into the company’s culture and people.
“I admired Webuild’s welcoming environment, and the work they were doing in engineering and construction. They quickly became my favourite tenant, and I expressed my interest in joining the company to a few employees who had worked with me through our building management initiatives.
“A receptionist position became available, and I saw it as a great opportunity to get my foot in the door, so I applied, interviewed, and was offered the role. I spent just over one year in that role, which was an incredibly rewarding experience. I got to know the employees, learned about the business, and grew professionally. From the beginning, my performance plan included the goal of progressing into another department.
“Eventually, a position opened in the HR and Organisation team. Both my current and former managers approached me to see if I was interested, and of course, I was! That’s how I transitioned into my current role as Organisation and Change Management Analyst, and it’s been an amazing journey ever since.
“In my current role, I work closely with my manager to oversee and maintain the documentation that governs the business, including Procedures, Operating Instructions, Guidelines, and Policies. This involves managing the documents in our internal systems, ensuring everything is current, consistent, and aligned within the business. We are also responsible for maintaining and standardising Organisation Charts across all business functions, regularly reviewing them for accuracy and feasibility. Additionally, we lead initiatives in Employer Branding, fostering relationships with universities across Australia, and more recently, New Zealand, to strengthen our presence and reputation among emerging talent.
“The engineering and construction industry offers diverse career paths and many opportunities to grow. It provides stability and a consistent demand for skilled professionals, especially in Western Australia, which is what initially drew me to it.
“What I love most about working at Webuild is the culture. It’s genuinely welcoming, supportive, and people-focused. I appreciate the opportunity for continuous learning, especially being trusted to take on new responsibilities and grow within the company. I’m grateful for my team, mentor, my previous and current manager, who continuously challenge and support me to become the best version of myself.
