We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Estimator to join the Bidding Energy & Resources Team in North Sydney! In this role, you will lead the estimating team to deliver accurate estimates for tenders and ongoing works, using your technical expertise and industry benchmarks. You’ll guide and develop estimators, provide market insights on cost and productivity, and ensure high-quality outputs. As part of a national team across WA, QLD, and NSW, you may need to travel during bid studies. You’ll also support internal approvals and participate in corporate review meetings when required.

Your focus will include:

  • Provide support to WB / Clough project teams where Capex estimates are required as a project deliverable.
  • Maintain quality from the team of estimators to provide competitive cost estimates for the specific Tender.
  • Ensure the tender is compiled using the Clough estimating software and that the estimate is developed and structured using the Clough Standard Area breakdown Structure.
  • Take the leadership in developing the Direct and indirect cost for the tender to ensure that Management is provided confidence to access the optimum sell price.
  • Develop and co-ordinate the following:
     
    • Proposed construction methods.
    • Preliminary works schedule (programme).
    • Direct cost estimates.
    • Indirect cost estimates.
    • Proposed qualifications/clarifications to be submitted with the tender/proposal.
    • Unit rates/day work rates to be submitted with the tender.
  • Provide input to risk review and analysis to give confidence of estimate at Management reviews.
  • Take ownership of the estimate and ensure deliverables are delivered on time.
  • Ascertain any special requirements or considerations relating to the tender and ensure these are adequately addressed during the preparation of the estimate.
  • Assist in discussions/negotiations with prospective major vendors/major subcontractors during the tender preparation.
  • Follow and comply with Company estimating procedures and provide productive feedback on company systems and processes within appropriate forums toward ongoing improvement.
  • Ensure estimates are linked to schedules and cost system.
  • Cost Experience and construction Vertical Construction/ Energy & Resources sectors
  • Knowledge of Australian standards and understanding of EBA agreements
  • Proven understanding of Productivity Factors
  • Strong proficiency in Civil or building estimating
  • Estimated plant equipment mobilisation and demobilisation costing for indirect cost.
  • Understand and ensure clear use of Direct cost vs. Indirect Cost analysis.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Possession of  Engineering or tertiary qualifications in the engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the Energy & Resources (Transmission Lines) construction industry
  • Considerable experience as a Senior Estimator, in tender preparation for contracts congruent with the Company’s operations
  • Proficiency in the use of the different Estimating software’s
  • Demonstrable leadership capabilities, communication, coaching, mentoring and developing the estimating team
  • Preferred to have engineering, construction experience with an Energy (Transmission Lines) focus in conjunction with a Senior Estimators role

Skills

  • Proficiency with CCS Candy estimating software.
  • Advanced Microsoft skills
  • Ability to develop top-down estimates based on norms and in accordance with an Area Breakdown Structure
  • Ability to establish direct and indirect costs.
  • Ability to qualify estimates as required.
  • Ability to assist in the development of construction execution.

Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of Energy (Transmission Lines)   Industry practices
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Strong understanding of contracting principles
  • Develop best working practices for the team
  • Familiarity with industry norms for Infrastructure/Construction

Experience

  • 15 (+) years in the Energy & Resources industry
  • 10 (+) years’ experience working as an EPC or Construction contractor
