Meet Kate Martin, newly-appointed Future Generation Joint Venture (FGJV) Environmental Advisor on the iconic Snowy 2.0 Project, in New South Wales, Australia.

Kate commenced her career with Clough in 2019, after graduating from the University of Western Australia. She was accepted into Clough’s Internship Program in Perth, and then went into Clough’s Graduate Program.

“Clough’s support and emphasis on developing their graduates is what drew me to the company since the very beginning. I have been given many opportunities to work with some incredible people across Australia and gain a range of skills. It has been a great experience,” said Kate.

A few months ago, Kate commenced her new role as Environmental Advisor for FGJV, located at the Snowy 2.0 Marica worksite in the Snowy Mountains. Kate explains the biggest adjustment has been the contrast in weather.

“I have come from the Pilbara heat which I have grown accustomed to in Western Australia, to now experiencing the snow-covered mountains of New South Wales, with snow covering the Marica site nearly every day,” she added.

Kate and the FGJV Environment team are responsible for ensuring the Project’s Environmental Protection Licence, Conditions of Approval, National Parks Lease and all associated FGJV Environmental Management Plan requirements are met.

One of Kate’s favourite parts about working on the Snowy 2.0 project is the chance to work within one of Australia’s largest national parks. “Although it does create some additional challenges, getting to work within the natural environment of the Snowy Mountains is a unique opportunity. It is an incredibly rewarding working environment, situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Australia,” said Kate.

The Snowy 2.0 project involves linking two existing Snowy Scheme dams, Tantangara and Talbingo, through 27km of tunnels and building a new underground power station. It will underpin the nation’s secure and stable transition to a low-carbon emissions future at the lowest cost for consumers.

FGJV is planning, engineering and delivering Snowy 2.0 on behalf of Snowy Hydro Limited. It is a unique partnership that combines the engineering experience of Clough, Italy’s Webuild (formerly Salini Impregilo) and US-based Lane Construction.
