Culvert Casting: Complete - All culvert castings are now complete, marking a significant milestone for the project. Since March 2024, the Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C team has installed 4,454 culverts across North East Link, averaging an impressive 150 installations per week. 

While casting is now complete, culvert deliveries to site will continue in line with ongoing TBM excavation progress. 

Each culvert measures 3.5 metres high and 4.1 metres wide and was manufactured by Humes at their Echuca facility before being transported to Watsonia for installation. Weighing approximately 19 tonnes each, the culverts form the service tunnel beneath the road surface, providing safe access for maintenance vehicles and personnel once the tunnel opens to traffic in 2028. 

Webuild, as part of the Spark Joint Venture, is delivering North East Link. The project will take 15,000 trucks off local roads every day and reduce travel times by up to 35 minutes for commuters. Once complete, it will be the longest road tunnel in Victoria. Learn more about the project here.
