Meet Violet, School Based Trainee with the Webuild Group!

We connected with Violet last year through our community partnership with the Stars Foundation which empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women. Together, we are supporting Violet in completing a Cert II in Workplace Skills while she finishes the last two years of high school.

Violet has been a fantastic addition to the team, supporting admin, reception, the facilities team, and now the Learning and Development team!

Violet recently made her first visit to one our sites, joining our team at the Woodman Point Project, where she got to see everything that goes into bringing WA’s largest and most advanced water treatment upgrade to life!

“When I first arrived at the construction site, I was blown away as I’ve never been on site before. The site looked so big and there was so much to see while driving around. I thought that it was so amazing looking at the construction side of the company. I also found the environment was so different compared to the corporate office.

“I learned about lots of different roles – from store person to water cart operator to delivery manager. These jobs were so interesting and the people who do these jobs are great at what they do.

“The whole process of how they reuse the water, and how it gets made into clean water was the most interesting process I learned as there was so many pipes and machinery it goes through to make so clean.

“This visit has influenced my interest in pursuing a career in construction by seeing there are so many different jobs roles that I can pursue in construction and seeing how different the environment is.”

Violet is part of the Stars Foundation Program, where she is also a Cultural Leader in the group. Our four-year strong partnership with Stars supports their mission to empower young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women through education and provide guidance for life and career pathways.

We actively support the Stars Foundation, engaging students, like Violet, with work experience opportunities, hosting open days to encourage their interest in STEM careers, and attending Stars' careers forums and events.

As we continue our reconciliation journey, our vision is to enable equal participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples across the nation-building projects we deliver. This partnership continues to support our vision by enabling us to build meaningful opportunities and pathways for these young women and inspire their engagement in STEM fields and careers.
