Balance the Scales this International Women’s Day - Today we recognise International Women’s Day, a celebration of progress, but also a reminder of the work still needed to truly balance the scales and ensure every woman and girl is safe, heard, and free to shape her own future. 

In the construction and engineering industries, women are still an underrepresented proportion of the workforce. But balancing the scales means more than improving participation statistics. Our focus is on:

• Leadership & representation: Strengthening sponsorship, mentoring and leadership programs for women.

• Increasing women in technical & trade roles: Expanding apprenticeships, targeted recruitment and education partnerships to build stronger pathways.

• Retention, progression & culture: Embedding structured career development, flexible work practices to ensure women can progress at every stage of their careers.

• Fair & transparent remuneration: Maintaining gender-neutral pay processes and annual gender pay gap analyses.

• Growing the future pipeline: Partnering with Girls Engineering Tomorrow, Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) Group Australia and National Association of Women in Construction (AU) to encourage more women into STEM and construction careers.

Diverse teams drive stronger outcomes, better innovation and improved project performance. When women and girls stand equal, workplaces are fairer, communities are stronger, and our industry is better for it.
