Clough, an Australian subsidiary of the Webuild Group, is pleased to announce that in alliance with Water Corporation and Jacobs, it has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the upgrade of the Woodman Point Sludge Treatment Facilities. Clough will lead the non-owner participation with a 60% stake valued at approximate AUD$150 million.

This project is the latest in a series of upgrades being conducted by Water Corporation at the Woodman Point Water Resource Recovery Facility, of which the Sludge Treatment Facilities is part of. 

Located in Munster, Western Australia, the Woodman Point Water Resource Recovery Facility is the largest treatment plant in the state, serving industrial, commercial, and residential customers of Perth’s southern metropolitan region. 

Clough’s scope includes upgrading the facility's sludge treatment processing system. This will enable the recovery of biosolids for agricultural use. The solid material, known as biosolids, will be used as a soil conditioner. Another by-product of the sludge treatment process is biogas, which can be used as a source of energy. 

The upgrade will incorporate Thermal Hydrolysis Pre-Treatment (THP) technology, which is key in process intensification of the existing anaerobic digesters which in turn will help in further promoting the conversion of the biogas into energy, as well as a new dewatered sludge receival facility, new solids thickening and dewatering systems and an expansion of the existing odour treatment facilities.

Overall, the Woodman Point Water Recovery Facility has the capacity to treat up to 180 megalitres of used incoming water per day. This project is designed to treat 120 tonnes of dried solids per day. The increase in capacity will allow the facility to continue to recover 100% of the biosolids, making it a water efficient water treatment facility.

These upgrades are expected to be completed by mid-2026. Commissioning and testing of the new system will follow, with the Facility aiming to be fully operational by the end of 2026.
