Meet Alayah, Year 12 student and recent Clough trainee. Alayah began her career at Clough through a traineeship, that has given her invaluable skills and experiences to carry through to the next step in her journey. This is Alayah’s story.

“My traineeship journey with Clough began when I was offered the opportunity to come out and do an interview after I had been applying and looking into different traineeships across different industries. I was only fifteen at the time and thought the office was too fancy for me but instantly felt welcomed when I came in and I first met Jody and Wendy.

I was so happy when I got the call saying Clough wanted me to part of the team. I thought I was too young, but I have been here for about two years now and Clough has continued to stay just the welcoming workplace I saw in my interview with the kindest employees.

Over my time at Clough, I appreciated being able to meet so many people and all the opportunities I have had, these have really highlighted my experiences at Clough. I’ve gotten to attend so many events and experience so many exciting opportunities.

I’ve learnt so many valuable lessons, you also don’t have to do ATAR to work in business, you can do certs like I did.

I did a Cert II in Business, and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work at Clough which allowed me to see insights into white collar and blue collar work so, there are lots of different roles within construction.

You also don’t have to have everything planned out straight away. Clough has been very supportive and helpful when I’ve been trying to decide what roles I would want to work in.

I’ve learned so much in my time at Clough so far, and using all the skills I’ve gained over the past two years, I am thinking of starting my university journey, but not until 2024. I want to take a year to work and focus more on my career at Clough. I knew I wanted to stay and work here since I began.

I have been juggling my work and school life for the past two years; I want to have a singular focus for a while as I was offered a full-time job at Clough this year.

I’ve recently joined the Recruitment team, and I’ve been developing more skills and I have been learning what it’s all about to work in that department and I am so excited to continue expanding my knowledge and skills.

If you are thinking of applying for a role Clough, I could not recommend it enough, Clough gave me some many cool experiences and unique opportunities and I can’t wait to continue my journey.”
