Getting ready to relaunch - the Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C team is getting ready to relaunch tunnel boring machines (TBMs) Gillian and Zelda so they can resume their epic tunnelling journeys towards Manningham.

These impressive TBMs broke through at the project’s Lower Plenty Road site just last month and have since been undergoing routine inspections and mechanical maintenance before continuing through this next project phase.

Since launching from Watsonia last year, TBM Gillian has excavated 1.6 kilometres of tunnel, installing more than 6520 concrete segments along the way. TBM Zelda has excavated over 920,000 tonnes of rock and dirt, with more than 7150 segments installed.
