Clough is committed to providing and maintaining a flexible work environment that enables all employees to manage their work, family and lifestyle responsibilities. Flexibility means different things to different people, so we deliver a range of options including compressed work weeks, job-sharing, remote work, flexible working hours and flexibility for specific periods. Offering this flexibility has been career-changing for many Clough staff and is transforming the way we do business. These are some of their stories.

Meet Carly Booth

"My name is Carly Booth and I currently work on Clough projects out of the Sydney office.

I started working with Clough as a Lead Planner for a project. I really enjoyed my role and the work that I was doing, but I felt like I needed more time for my family. I have two young boys aged 6 and 3, and the juggle became a little too much, so I decided to hand in my notice.

My end goal was to spend more time with my boys, so I thought, why not pose a possible solution instead of leaving all together. It was the final week of my notice, but I approached my manager and proposed part time hours with a less demanding schedule, and they have been amazing.

Within one week they turned my contract around. I now work as a Senior Planner within the hours of 8-2, which allows me to pick my children up from school and fulfill all the other parental responsibilities I felt I couldn’t before.

Having the option of a flexible work arrangement has meant the world to me to be honest. I have always been a full-time working mum, and now I can meet my eldest at the school gate and pick up my youngest, at a reasonable hour, from day-care. I don’t feel like I’m missing out, plus it has brought balance back into my family home.

I would encourage anyone wholeheartedly to consider working at Clough. They go above and beyond to give you the balance you need; I am proof of that. I would also say, if you never ask, you’ll never know! Challenge the norm. I think working mothers feel the need to prove they can juggle everything, when really, you don’t have to. You can have the best of both worlds.”

Meet Charlie Zed

“My name is Charlie Zed and I currently work on Clough projects out of the Perth office as a Senior Contracts Advisor.

I think having family friendly and flexible work practices in place is very important; it helps people find that work, family and lifestyle balance.

For me personally it has been particularly important as I recently became a father for the first time. Having the option of flexibility at work has allowed me to take on an active role as a parent.

I work from home one day each week at the moment, and that has also been helpful in saving me commuting time so that I can assist in family and household requirements, especially at times of the day when it is needed most.

It’s important for men to feel supported in taking up these practices to support gender equality in the workplace, and to step away from traditional values and roles experienced by our previous generations.

My wife’s career is as important as my own and we need to move forward as a society and support this in all workplaces. Both partners should have equal opportunities in their professional development and family lives.”

Meet Carlo Puca

“My name is Carlo Puca and I currently work at Clough in the Perth office as the Group Quality Manager.

Clough offers a number of different flexible work arrangements from flexible working hours and job sharing, to remote working and compressed work schedules.

To me it is important that my employer is committed to providing and maintaining a flexible work environment that enables all employees to manage their work, family and lifestyle responsibilities.

With flexible working hours I was able to attend all pre-natal appointments with my wife. My personal scenario demonstrates how family friendly/flexible work practices allows staff to maintain their work-life balance to suit their needs which I think is importance as in turn it creates committed and loyal employees.

Gender Equality is about having rights or opportunities that are unaffected by gender, and this applies when it comes to men being supported with flexible work practices.

I feel fortunate to work for an employer such as Clough who uphold their values in regards to Gender Equality and allows my current arrangement of flexible working hours as well as remote working.

My line manager supported my proposal when I presented it to him, and it is also very encouraging knowing Clough’s CEO and other senior management promote all staff to consider family friendly/flexible work practices.”
