Scope of work

Clough, in a consortium with Diversified and Maunsell AECOM, completed the Design and Construction contract for the Toowoomba Pipeline, from Wivenhoe Dam to Toowoomba’s Cressbrook Dam.

The project involved the design of a 38-kilometre pipeline through rural properties and State forest, with an ability to deliver a 14,200 megalitres of water a year to Cressbrook, and construction of a high-lift pump station, a break tank, a low-lift jetty intake structure, a pipeline swabbing system, and an adjacent maintenance track.

The project also involved the construction of the mild steel cement lined pipelined, one metre below the surface level with a 762 millimetre diameter.

The vertical profile of the pipeline through the rolling hills and up the range required special design attention to air and silt management, at the start-up, shutdown and surge phases. The route required micro-tunnelling underground to minimise impact at major highways. There are two crossings under Main Roads highways and several creek crossings.
