Superintendent - Dewatering General

Purpose of the Role

Oversees the planning, execution, and management of dewatering operations, ensuring projects are completed, operated and maintained, safely, efficiently, and within budget. This role involves leading engineering, operation and execution teams, managing, plant, equipment, resources, and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve operational targets and strategic objectives, in construction contexts.

 

Essential Criteria

  • At least 10÷20 years of experience in dewatering operations, preferably in mining or construction.
  • At least 5 years of experience in superintendent/manager role
  • Strong understanding of dewatering systems and related equipment. Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment plants operation, maintenance and troubleshooting as well as chemicals used in different processes. Understanding of semi complex pipelines and pipe reticulations, water storage, and transferring, with all related mechanical and electrical implication.
  • Implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures, conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects effectively.
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Must have the legal right to work in Australia
  •  

Desirable Criteria:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant fields such as mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering may be advantageous.
  • A strong track record of continuous professional development
  • Previous site-based experience in any or a combination of the following sectors would be advantageous:
    • Tunnelling Dewatering systems, civils and construction water treatment
    • Complex industrial installations
    • Critical Equipment maintenance scheduling, updating and implementation
  • Familiar with procurement and supply chain process.
  • Experienced working within water quality regulator, and water criteria compliances (surface water or ocean discharge, especially to environmentally preserved areas)
  • Knowledge of process control instrumentation, controls
  • Hydraulic background would be advantageous, such as pipeline hydraulics, plumbing parts and accessories
  • Some previous experience with chemical consumption forecast would be advantageous.
  • A willingness to share pervious knowledge and learn new skills.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • This role is FIFO/DIDO site-based and encompasses frequent driving to site locations throughout the project to support operations and perform site-based investigations.
  • Directly reporting to the department manager, being capable of working independently within an engineering and operational team to support other team members in monitoring different treatment plants’ performance, investigating the exceedance, and proposing troubleshooting solutions
  • Liaising with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate dewatering activities and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Tracking costs, monitoring performance against targets, and reporting on progress to relevant stakeholders.
  • Updating and approval of new plants, systems and installation
